Transportation

Families with children who have special needs may need transportation assistance. Most counties in North Carolina offer some form of transportation assistance. This may be citywide public transportation, door-to-door paratransit services, or medical transport vans. Paratransit services are for those with disabilities, and you may need to call your local transportation office or Department of Social Services to determine eligibility. Paratransit services and medical transport need to be set up in advance with a Dial-a-Ride phone call system. Some Medicaid recipients may be eligible for subsidized or cost-free medical transport assistance. More information can be found here, or you can contact your local Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO) for details about this service.
