Understanding child development

Children grow, develop, and learn throughout their lives from birth and infancy to adulthood at variable rates. A child’s development can be measured by achievement of social, physical, and cognitive developmental milestones. Health care professionals, other service providers, and parents can work together as partners to help children reach their full potential.

What are child typical development milestones?

Babies: 0-12 months

Toddlers: 1-3 years

Preschoolers: 3-5 years
